Media Statement by Johore DAP Policy Director and Senai State Assemblyperson Wong Shu Qi on 3rd August 2014 (Sunday):
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin should apologize for his recklessness on spreading baseless accusation on his social media account.
I was informed yesterday that Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin, Menteri Besar of Johor, has already deleted the two RTs that accused DAP and myself not taking care of Malaysians’ interest without any concrete evidence.
Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin decided to delete the two RTs from his twitter account after our press conference had held on Friday, proving that he does indeed know the tweets consist of baseless accusation.
It’s very bad taste for a top leader of the state spreading rumours and accusations without thinking twice and reading facts. All my statements on Vehicle Entry Permit can be found online, especially my website wongshuqi.my.
I can only conclude the act was done either recklessly or deliberately by Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin while he should not make such a low-class mistake as a seasoned politician.
Therefore, I urge Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin to apologize at least on his social media account, for instances, the twitter or facebook to clear the doubts.
Besides that, I would like to remind the BN/UMNO government that the decisions and policies should not be made as an emotional response. We Pakatan Rakyat representatives regret to see that BN government is playing racial politics, placing their politics interest as priority while people’s welfare is neglected.
I hereby request the BN/UMNO government to reveal who will be benefitted from EDL toll hike, and the rationale of collecting EDL toll at the Johor Bahru Custom, Immigration and Quarantine Complex while only 20% of the EDL users are using the highway to reach CIQ complex.
Secondly, since Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak did promise in the Parliament on 24th Sepember 2012 that EDL would remain toll free, the BN government must explain the why the announcement of toll hike was made out of sudden just before the Hari Raya.
Thirdly, BN politicians should stop confusing people with mixing up the concept of EDL toll charge RM 13.60 at CIQ complex and VEP charge imposed on foreign-registered vehicles. The former has already been implemented and Malaysia-registered vehicles are made compulsory to pay as well while comprehensive report on VEP has not even done by any stakeholder.
BN/UMNO government can’t be more irresponsible in handling the border traffic and border charge issue which eventually affect million households.
